Apprenticeships
Provision of apprenticeships and the skills trained vary depending upon the company. Some organisations teach exclusively marine skills, while others provide training in other areas, such as business administration. British Marine report that 20% of companies are struggling to fill skills shortages internally and another 16% of have “hard to fill” vacancies. Apprenticeships may be one way to sustainably fill these vacancies and skill shortages, as these issues are faced by approximately 2000 companies, in an industry of approximately 5000 organisations (Wilson 2020).
